Overview

Cataract Surgery for Clearer, Brighter Vision.

At Aloka Eye Clinic Dubai, cataract surgery is performed using the latest phacoemulsification (phaco) technology — a safe, precise, and minimally invasive procedure that restores clear vision by removing the cloudy natural lens and replacing it with a premium intraocular lens (IOL). Our skilled surgeons ensure a seamless experience with quick recovery, minimal discomfort, and excellent visual outcomes tailored to each patient’s unique eye condition and lifestyle needs.

We offer a wide range of advanced IOL options, including monofocal, multifocal, and extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses, designed to enhance both near and distance vision while reducing dependence on glasses. With cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, personalized pre-surgical assessment, and world-class postoperative care, Aloka Eye Clinic is dedicated to delivering the highest standards of cataract management in a compassionate and comfortable environment — helping you regain clarity and enjoy life with renewed vision.

Cataract Symptoms

Cataracts typically cause gradual, painless vision changes. Patients may notice blurred or cloudy vision, difficulty seeing in low light, or increased sensitivity to bright lights and glare. Colors may also appear faded or less vibrant.

As the cataract progresses, tasks such as reading, driving especially at night and recognizing faces can become more challenging. Some people also experience frequent prescription changes as the lens continues to cloud.

How is it Diagnosed

Comprehensive Eye Examination

Your ophthalmologist evaluates your vision and eye health using a detailed eye exam to detect clouding of the natural lens and assess its severity.

Slit-Lamp Evaluation
A slit-lamp microscope allows the doctor to inspect the lens closely, identifying the type and extent of the cataract.

Visual Acuity & Other Tests

Tests such as visual acuity measurement and glare assessment help determine how much the cataract affects your daily vision and whether surgery is needed.

Treatments Options

Prescription Changes-
In the early stages, updating your glasses or contact lens prescription may improve clarity temporarily, helping you manage daily activities more comfortably.

Lifestyle & Visual Aids-
Using brighter lighting, anti-glare lenses, and magnifying tools can ease visual strain and improve daily functioning while the cataract remains mild.

Cataract Surgery-
Once symptoms interfere with quality of life, cataract surgery is the definitive treatment. The clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to restore sharper vision.

About Lens

During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). There are several types, including monofocal, multifocal, Edof and toric IOLs, each designed to improve vision at different distances or correct astigmatism. Your ophthalmologist will recommend the lens best suited to your vision needs and lifestyle.

Choosing the right lens can greatly enhance visual quality, reduce dependence on glasses, and provide clearer, sharper vision after surgery. With modern advancements, IOLs can offer excellent outcomes tailored to your daily activities and personal preferences.

Monofocal Lens –Provides clear vision at one fixed distance—usually optimized for far vision.Patients may still need glasses for near or intermediate tasks.

Multifocal Lens- Designed to give clear vision at near, intermediate, and distance ranges. Reduces dependence on glasses, but may cause halos or glare initially.

EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) Lens- Creates a continuous range of vision, especially strong for intermediate and distance. Offers fewer visual disturbances compared to multifocal lenses.

Toric Lens- Specifically designed to correct astigmatism during cataract surgery. Provides sharper, more stable vision without the need for thick cylindrical glasses.

FAQs

Are cataracts only age-related?

No. Although age is the most common cause, cataracts can also occur due to trauma, medications, medical conditions like diabetes, or even be present from birth.

Yes. Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful procedures worldwide, with a high success rate and quick recovery for most patients.

The cataract itself does not return. However, some patients may develop cloudiness of the lens capsule later on. This is known as Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO) or “secondary cataract.” It can be easily treated with a quick and painless laser procedure called YAG capsulotomy.
